STAND. COM. REP. NO. 2919
Honolulu, Hawaii
RE: GOV. MSG. NO. 404
Honorable Colleen Hanabusa
President of the Senate
Twenty-Fourth State Legislature
Regular Session of 2008
State of Hawaii
Madam:
Your Committee on Judiciary and Labor, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 404, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:
Board of Trustees of the Deferred Compensation Plan
G.M. No. 404 |
KENNETH T. TAIRA, for a term to expire 6-30-2012, |
begs leave to report as follows:
Your Committee received testimony in support of Kenneth T. Taira from the Department of Human Resources Development and two individuals.
The nominee represents the public employee appointment to the Board of Trustees of the Deferred Compensation Plan. This is a reappointment to a second term. Mr. Taira retired in 2005 as the Chief Negotiator of the State of Hawaii. He has had a long career in Maui County government in personnel administration. Mr. Taira received a B.B.A. degree from the University of Hawaii, and served in the United States Army for two years with the rank of lieutenant in the Adjutant General Corps.
Your Committee notes the testimony of the Department of Human Resources Development that the nominee has demonstrated a sincere desire to make the Deferred Compensation Plan one of the best in the nation, and accordingly supports more enhancements to the Plan such as investment advice to participants.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Judiciary and Labor that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Judiciary and Labor,
|
