STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3480

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 355

Honorable Colleen Hanabusa

President of the Senate

Twenty-Fourth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2008

State of Hawaii

Madam:

Your Committee on Human Services and Public Housing, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 355, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

State Rehabilitation Council

G.M. No. 355

LARRY M. LITTLETON,

for a term to expire 6-30-2011,

begs leave to report as follows:

Your Committee received testimony in support of the nominee from the Office of the Mayor of the County of Kauai, the Department of Human Services, and the State Rehabilitation Council (Council).  Written comments regarding the nominee were submitted by the Disability and Communication Access Board.

Nominee Littleton has been an active member of the Council for the past three years.  As a member of the Council's Human Resources Committee, the nominee was instrumental in producing the Council's first ever brochure of the Hawaii SRC Public Education Initiative, aimed at educating employers about the many positive aspects of hiring persons with disabilities.  The nominee has co-chaired the Kauai Mayor's Advisory Committee on Equal Access, and has been an active member of the Working Group to develop the 2008 Interagency Action Plan for the Emergency Preparedness of People with Disabilities and Special Health Needs.  Further, the nominee has a sensory disability and represents the County of Kauai.  Nominee Littleton will continue to be a valuable asset to the Council and those it serves.

Upon review of the testimony, your Committee finds that the nominee has the necessary qualifications to continue to serve on the State Rehabilitation Council.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Human Services and Public Housing that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Human Services and Public Housing,
