STAND. COM. REP. NO. 2923

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 341

Honorable Colleen Hanabusa

President of the Senate

Twenty-Fourth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2008

State of Hawaii

Madam:

Your Committee on Education, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 341, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Education Commission of the States

G.M. No. 341

ANN R. BOTTICELLI,

for a term to expire 6-30-2012,

begs leave to report as follows:

Upon review of the information provided, your Committee finds that Ann R. Botticelli currently serves as the Vice President of Community Relations and Communications at Kamehameha Schools and is being nominated for her second term on the Education Commission of the States.  Ms. Botticelli is a graduate of Punahou School who earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Michigan State University.  She has also previously served as a vice president of communications and as a reporter.  Ms. Botticelli is actively involved in her community, having served as a board member for the Mediation Center of the Pacific, the Institute for Human Services, Hookakoo Corporation, and the Hawaii Justice Foundation.

Testimony in support of the nominee was submitted by the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and three individuals.

Your Committee questioned the nominee regarding her vision for the Education Commission of the States and ways to increase Hawaii's involvement and initiative in contributing to the national framework or forums on education.  Your Committee believes that the nominee will properly serve Hawaii through a commitment to working together with other states to evaluate and establish education policy that is appropriate and effective in preparing our students for the future.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Education,
