Your Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Affordable Housing, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 312, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Your Committee reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement submitted by the nominee, and finds Benjamin K. Waiolama to have the necessary qualifications to be nominated to the Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Board for a second term.
Testimony in support of Mr. Waiolama's nomination was submitted by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
Mr. Waiolama is a graduate of McKinley High School and a retired Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army after thirty-five years of service. After his retirement in 1987, he was employed at Lockheed Martin and now works at Hanauma Bay. He has been a Board Member of the Ft. Shafter Federal Credit Union for the past seventeen years and a member of the United States Army Race Relation Council. In 2004, he received the President's Volunteer Service Award and an award for Volunteer Service at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve.
Mr. Waiolama is being reappointed to the Board as a public member and has served on the Board since 2005. In July 2006, he was nominated to be the Chairperson of the Board, and he continues to serve in that capacity presently. He is a dependable member who provides the effective leadership and guidance that is needed to effectuate the matters before the Board. He encourages open discussion while maintaining focus on the immediate matter at hand. Mr. Waiolama's demonstrated commitment, motivation, and professional and life experiences will greatly assist the Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Board.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Affordable Housing that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.
