SENATE RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE Governor to RESCHEDULE THE YEAR OF THE FAMILY CELEBRATION FROM 2008 TO 2009.
WHEREAS, in 2006, the Twenty-third Legislature adopted unanimously House Concurrent Resolution No. 269, which requested the Governor to designate and celebrate 2008 as the Year of the Family, and to establish a Family Celebration Commission to administer the celebration; and
WHEREAS, in August 2007, the Governor enacted Executive Order 07-03, which designated 2008 as the Year of the Family, and established the Family Celebration Commission to gather information, and to prepare and recommend, an overall program to celebrate the Year of the Family in Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, House Concurrent Resolution No. 269 charged the Family Celebration Commission with developing, planning, and coordinating various program activities to be scheduled throughout the Year of the Family, and to encourage the participation of all segments of the State's population in the celebration; and
WHEREAS, the Family Celebration Commission has recommended to the Governor that the Year of the Family be rescheduled from 2008 to 2009 so that the Commission may facilitate broader community involvement in a successful year-long celebration; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that the Governor is requested to designate 2009 as the Year of the Family, and to reschedule the Year of the Family celebration from 2008 to 2009; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor is requested to allow the Family Celebration Commission to continue its work in implementing its plans for a Year of the Family celebration in 2009; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
