A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an appropriation for science education.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Act 160, Session Laws of Hawaii 2006, appropriated $2,000,000 for purchasing science textbooks and teaching resources. Fifteen complex areas submitted requests totaling nearly $6,000,000.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for science textbooks and other teaching resources; provided that schools within a complex receiving funds have a K-12 articulated science curriculum.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $4,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008, to purchase science textbooks and other teaching resources; provided that schools within a complex receiving funds have a K‑12 articulated science curriculum.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
