A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE COLLEGE at the university of hawaii.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The Hawaiian language college at the University of Hawaii has had several important achievements since the legislative mandate for its establishment ten years ago. The legislature finds that funding for its programs and faculty have not been consistent with the achievements and activities of the college.
The purpose of this Act is to fund the Hawaiian language college at the University of Hawaii so it can continue its contributions, leadership, and achievements in the area of indigenous language teaching and revitalization.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008, for the Hawaiian language college at the University of Hawaii.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
