A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to Veterans cemeteries.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that funds allotted in the state budget for repairs and improvement work at veterans cemeteries in fiscal years 2008 and 2009 were intended to be used statewide. However, the office of veterans services intends to expend the majority of the appropriated funds on improvements to the veterans cemetery located in Kaneohe, Oahu. This action does not serve the legislature's intent.
The purpose of this Act is to clarify the requirements for the use of funding allotted in the state budget for repair and importance to veterans cemeteries. Specifically, it serves to allot funds between the counties, ensuring statewide distribution of the funds.
SECTION 2. Act 213, Session Laws of Hawaii 2007, is amended by adding a new section to part V to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"SECTION . Provided that of the general obligation bond fund appropriation for services to veterans (DEF 112), item F-6, the sum of $1,000,000 for fiscal year 2008-2009 shall be allocated among the respective counties for repair and improvement to veterans cemeteries as follows:
City and county of Honolulu $
County of Hawaii $
County of Maui $
County of Kauai $
Total $1,000,000"
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
