A BILL FOR AN ACT
making an appropriation for disaster relief.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the earthquake of October 2006 caused great damage in the county of Hawaii. Although the legislature adopted an emergency appropriation in 2007, the county of Hawaii still requires additional state assistance to enable it to receive matching federal funds. The purpose of this Act is to enable the county of Hawaii to recover from the October 2006 earthquake through maximizing available federal reimbursements.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $5,770,710 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 to support disaster relief in the county of Hawaii, as follows:
(1) $1,344,089 as local matching funds for Federal Highway Administration funds;
(2) $665,000 as local matching funds for general Federal Emergency Management Agency funds; and
(3) $3,761,621 as local matching funds for Federal Emergency Management Agency funds available to the county of Hawaii department of water supply.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the county of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
