A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO THE BUDGET.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 37, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§37- Vacancies; salary savings to revert to state treasury. Any position that has been vacant for more than five years shall be deleted from the respective budget on June 30 of each fiscal year and the appropriation for such position shall revert to its respective fund in the manner prescribed in section 40-66. This section shall apply to the executive and judiciary budgets. The executive and judiciary shall submit a report to the legislature on December 31 of each year listing all vacant positions that have been deleted pursuant to this section and all other vacant positions."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
