HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Commending Brian Kajiyama As A Role Model and an inspiration to all who face challenges.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Americans hold traits such as dedication, persistence, determination, and courage in very high regard in our society, so should we recognize BRIAN KAJIYAMA, as someone who personifies each of these characteristics; and

 

     WHEREAS, BRIAN KAJIYAMA, currently a University of Hawaii PH.D. Candidate for Exceptionalities from Special Education, serves as a member on the Disability Communication Access Board for the State of Hawaii and is the former co-executive director of Pathways, an electronic forum for the National Institute on Multicultural Competence, as well as a Graduate Assistant for Cultural and Linguistic Diversity transition research project; and

 

     WHEREAS, BRIAN KAJIYAMA is a recent recipient of the prestigious Jacquelyn Brand Leadership in Assistive Technology Award, which nationally recognizes his contributions to improving the quality of life of those with disabilities; and

 

     WHEREAS, his tireless commitment as the Graduate Assistant for the University of Hawaii Football program, aided Coach June Jones, Coach Jeff Reinebold and the Warriors clinch the Western Athletic Conference Championship with their most successful season in 2007-2008; and

 

     WHEREAS, his "groundbreaking" role as the first wheelchair-bound, non-speaking assistant in college football history inspired his nomination for the FedEx Orange Bowl FWAA Courage Award; and

 

     WHEREAS, BRIAN KAJIYAMA is one of five finalists from the State of Hawaii of the esteemed Jefferson Award, which recognizes those who are extraordinary within the community and made a valuable contribution in public service; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 24th Legislature, Regular Session of 2008, hereby recognizes BRIAN KAJIYAMA for his outstanding commitment, courage and determination and his contribution to the community.
