HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

COMMEMORATING THE PROUD LEGACY OF FILIPINO SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE ON THE OCCASION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE is rooted in the tradition of the American colonists who served, protected, and defended this country; and

 

     WHEREAS, one hundred years ago, Congress established the Medical Reserve Corps to provide a reservoir of trained officers in times of war, which has evolved to become the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE; and

 

     WHEREAS, with over one million soldiers available at any given time, the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE provides a highly skilled, flexible force that has served with excellence during many of the world's most serious conflicts, the Cold War, and the Global War on Terrorism, and stands ready to face the ever-changing demands of the 21st century; and

 

     WHEREAS, the United States also recently marked the centennial of Filipino immigration which brought to our shores a wealth of cultural heritage and history; and

 

     WHEREAS, Filipino immigrants have not only worked hard over the last century to personify the values of the country they have adopted, but they have also concretely expressed those values and their patriotism by volunteering to serve to protect their country in the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that this body commends the proud legacy of Filipino service men and women in the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE; 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chief of the U.S. Army Reserves, Commander of the U.S. Army Pacific Command, Commander of the 9th Regional Mission Command.
