HOUSE RESOLUTION
COMMEMORATING THE PROUD LEGACY OF SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE ON THE OCCASION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE.
WHEREAS, one hundred years ago, Congress established the Medical Reserve Corps to provide a reservoir of trained officers in times of war, which has evolved to become the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE; and
WHEREAS, the role of the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE has changed over time, moving from a strategic reserve to an operational force that can support the Army during peacetime, contingencies, campaigns, conflicts, and war; and
WHEREAS, though the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE makes up only 20 percent of the Army's organized units, it provides about half of the Army's combat support and one quarter of the Army's mobilization base expansion capability; and
WHEREAS, as the United States armed forces face a constantly changing world theater, the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE has played a critical role in the Army's transformation into a smaller, lighter, and quicker force; and
WHEREAS, soldiers of the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE have trained and served with excellence during many of the world's most serious conflicts, including World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War, Panama, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, the Iraq War, and the Global War on Terrorism; and
WHEREAS, with over one million soldiers available at any given time, the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE continues to produce a highly skilled, flexible force that can provide the Army with the support needed to face the ever-changing demands of the 21st century and the G1obal War on Terrorism; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that this body commends the proud legacy of service men and women in the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVE; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chief of the U.S. Army Reserves, Commander of the U.S. Army Pacific Command, Commander of the 9th Regional Mission Command.
