HOUSE RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING JAMES Campbell high schooL FOR ITS ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
WHEREAS, JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL, established in 1962, educates over 2,400 students from the ‘Ewa Plain in grades 9-12, and continues to strive for academic and athletic achievement; and
WHEREAS, under the coordination of JULIE DO, JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL was given approval to become first public school in Hawai‘i to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a challenging college preparatory program covering a vast array of academic subjects; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Coach NATHAN MACADANGDANG, the JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL Varsity Girls Basketball Team captured the Division II title earning JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL its third state championship since 1978; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of OSCAR RAMISCAL, students SHERWIN ACIDERA, ERIN GAMIL, and EVELYN OBAMOS won first place in the "Tell Me a Story" category of the statewide 2008 Island Movie Contest, took first place in the Public Broadcasting Corporation and Hawai‘i Civil Rights Commission's Pono Video Awards, and the City and County of Honolulu's "Earth Month Video" competition in the "Best in Floatables Category"; and
WHEREAS, the JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, a distinguished unit for the past 11 years, is the only school in Hawai‘i, and one of twenty-three in the nation selected to attend the NJROTC National Academics, Athletics, and Drill Championships in Pensacola, Florida, the most comprehensive test of overall JROTC training and performance; and
WHEREAS, the Milken Family Foundation has recognized MARITES BARANGAN, a teacher and graduate of JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL as Hawai‘i's recipient of the 2008 Teacher of Promise Award; and
WHEREAS, under the direction of Principal GAIL AWAKUNI, 2005 National High School Principal of the Year, JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL continues to obtain one of the highest rates of academic scholarship in Hawai‘i, and is a recipient of the Department of Education's Annual Achievement Award, Continuous Improvement Award, and was recognized as a 2007-2008 Distinguished School; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawai‘i, Regular Session of 2008, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates the students, faculty and staff of JAMES CAMPBELL HIGH SCHOOL for its exceptional academic and athletic performance, and extends its warmest aloha and sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
