HOUSE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY ON THE 2007 PRESIDENTIAL AWARD FOR EXEMPLARY COMMUNITY SERVICE, RECOGNIZING SERVICE TO YOUTH FROM DISADVANTAGED CIRCUMSTANCES.
WHEREAS, the Corporation for National and Community Service is a federal agency that improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering; and
WHEREAS, each year the Corporation for National and Community Service engages four million Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Service America programs; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is jointly sponsored by the Corporation, through its Learn and Service America program, Department of Education, Department of Housing and Urban Development, USA Freedom Corps, Campus Compact, and President's Council on Service and Civic Participation; and,
WHEREAS, six colleges and universities received presidential recognition for extraordinary contributions to service in their communities in the second annual 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll; and
WHEREAS, CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY is a recipient of the Corporation for National and Community Service Presidential Award for exemplary community service as the Corporation recognizes the university in the category of Service to Youth from Disadvantaged Circumstances; and
WHEREAS, CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY's achievements include 62,000 hours of service performed by the university community with 85 percent of the student body participating in service to disadvantaged youth; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that this body hereby congratulates CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY on its receipt of the 2007 Presidential Award for Service to Youth from Disadvantaged Circumstances Award from the Corporation for National and Community Service for the University's commitment to civic and community engagement and extends to the University its warmest aloha and best wishes for their continued success in all future endeavors.
