HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.C.R. NO.

369

TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE, 2008

STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

URGING THE MAYOR AND THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF MAUI COUNTY TO CREATE A SEPARATE COUNTY CODE SPECIFICALLY FOR THE ISLAND OF MOLOKAI.

WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii is divided into four major counties, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii, and the city and county of Honolulu; and

WHEREAS, each county represents a separate island that is unique and distinctive with its own culture, style, history, and charm; and

WHEREAS, the island of Molokai is no exception, with an exceptional and unique history, culture, and people that is unlike any of its sister islands; and

WHEREAS, only because of its relatively small population, Molokai falls under the jurisdiction of the county of Maui and the Maui county code; and

WHEREAS, however, the uniqueness of Molokai warrants the creation of a separate county code for Molokai; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, the Senate concurring, that the Mayor and County Council of Maui are urged to create a separate county code specifically for the island of Molokai; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to Mayor and the Chairperson of the Council of Maui County.
