HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF the united nations to OFFICIALLY COMMEMORATE cockfighting AS A GLOBAL SPORT.
WHEREAS, cockfighting has a very long and cherished tradition in many cultures across the planet from Europe to the Americas to Asia; and
WHEREAS, even the American Founding Fathers George Washington and Thomas Jefferson recognized the value of cockfighting, as participants in that sport; and
WHEREAS, many peoples of many cultures across many generations have participated in cockfighting, and to them, it represents an important part of their cultural legacy, and they are unwilling to lose or forget that tradition; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, the Senate concurring, that the General Assembly of the United Nations is hereby requested to officially commemorate cockfighting as a global sport; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to Srgjan Kerim, President of the UN General Assembly, Zalmay Mamozy Khalilzad, US Ambassador to the United Nations, US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, President George W. Bush, and Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the Europarl.
