A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $4,221,956 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008 and the sum of $4,032,414 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 to provide funds and resources to the department of education office of information technology services, for an integrated comprehensive student support system, including:
(1) The special education database;
(2) Continued implementation and enhancements to the centralized student information system;
(3) A financial management system; and
(4) The enhancement of the associated network support services, including the establishment of a service center to provide specialized information technology services as requested by schools on a reimbursable basis and that these funds be separately identified.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $844,440 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008 and the sum of $850,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 to provide additional funds and resources for the expansion of the State's high capacity network to accommodate ever-increasing needs in the use of technology in the classrooms.
SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008 and the sum of $125,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for a facilities asset management system to link the department of education's facilities inventory with condition assessments, and track and prioritize major and minor repairs to all school facilities.
SECTION 4. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $262,560 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008 for staff, training, supplies, and equipment for a fee-for-service pilot program with the office of technology services to provide technology assistance to schools, school complexes, and complex areas.
SECTION 5. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 6. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
