A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  The department of human services shall amend its administrative rules to add "legal guardian" to the definition of a specified relative for purposes of determining eligibility for state-funded family assistance.  

     "Legal guardian" means a person appointed by a court of law to serve as a legal guardian over a minor.

     The department of human services shall amend these rules within a reasonable period of time following the enactment of this Act. 

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2020.
