A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to abandoned vehicles.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Abandoned vehicles; county storage needs; report to legislature.  (a)  The mayor of each county shall report to legislature an analysis and determination of the respective county's needs in terms of storage for abandoned vehicles in the county, including estimates of:

     (1)  Current square footage of space available and projected square footage of space needed for storage of abandoned vehicles; and

     (2)  Costs to acquire, lease, or rent additional space for storage of abandoned vehicles.

     (b)  The mayor of each county shall submit to the legislature the findings and recommendations, including any necessary proposed legislation, with respect to storage needs for abandoned vehicles no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2009.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
