A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC HOUSING.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Several years ago, when the federal weed and seed initiative was in effect at the Mayor Wright homes public housing complex, residents saw a significant change for the better in their neighborhood. Recently, the complex has been the site of a shooting and other disturbances involving tenants and their neighbors. There have been several instances of public drunkenness, excessive noise, and conflicts with neighbors.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for improved security measures at the Mayor Wright homes public housing complex, including the contract hiring of three security officers.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009, for the contract hiring of three full-time security officers at Mayor Wright homes public housing complex.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii public housing authority for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
