A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

relating to the fiftieth anniversary of statehood commission.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Act 140, Session Laws of Hawaii 2007 (Act 140), established the fiftieth anniversary of statehood commission (commission) to plan and coordinate the public celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Hawaii’s admission to statehood in the United States of America.  Under Act 140, the commission was charged with developing, planning, and coordinating various activities, including a series of events scheduled for August of 2009.

     The purpose of this Act is to provide additional funding for the commission.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $        or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 to assist the fiftieth anniversary of statehood commission in carrying out its duties and activities pursuant to Act 140, Session Laws of Hawaii 2007.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii tourism authority for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  Any provision of this Act to the contrary notwithstanding, the appropriation authorized under this Act shall not lapse at the end of the fiscal year for which the appropriation is made; provided that any unexpended and unencumbered balance of the appropriation made in this Act as of the close of business on December 31, 2009, shall lapse.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
