A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE FIFTH REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  The following sums or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to finance the projects listed in this Act are hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii for fiscal year 2008-2009:

     1.   To be expended by the Hawaii county department of public works:

     A.   Mamalahoa highway, Hawaii

          Plans, design, and construction to extend the northbound left turn collector lane on Mamalahoa highway at Konawaena elementary school.

          Plans                                $150,000

          Design                               $250,000

          Construction                       $1,250,000

          Total funding                      $1,650,000

     2.   To be expended by the department of defense:

     A.   Kahuku disaster shelter, Hawaii

          Plans, design, and construction for a disaster shelter to be built in Kahuku by Ocean View Development Corporation.

          Plans                                $200,000

          Design                               $200,000

          Construction                       $2,500,000

          Total funding                      $2,900,000

     3.   To be expended by the department of education:

     A.   Ka`u high school, Hawaii

          Design, construction, and equipment for a new gymnasium which shall also serve as a disaster shelter.

          Design                               $800,000

          Construction                      $10,000,000

          Equipment                            $100,000

          Total funding                     $10,900,000

     4.   To be expended by the department of land and natural resources:

     A.   Kaawaloa access road, Hawaii

          Plans, design, and construction for a new access road to Kaawaloa (off Hokulia bypass road) in South Kona.

          Plans                                  $5,000

          Design                                 $8,000

          Construction                       $5,000,000

          Total funding                      $5,013,000

     SECTION 2.  The sums appropriated for the respective capital projects set forth in section 1 shall be expended by the designated expending agency for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
