A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Chapter 437D, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§437D-    Sports utility vehicles; rental prohibited. (a)  No lessor shall offer a rental agreement governing the use of a sports utility vehicle.

(b)  For the purposes of this section, a "sports utility vehicle" shall be defined as a passenger vehicle which combines the towing capacity of a pickup truck with the passenger-carrying space of a minivan or station wagon together with on or off road ability."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
