A BILL FOR AN ACT

making appropriations for athletics in public schools.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $56,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for a 1.0 permanent FTE athletic director position at Anuenue school.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for equipment and supplies for school athletic programs.

     SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for transportation for school athletic programs.

     SECTION 4.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for athletic programs to meet gender equity in sports requirements for females in public schools.

     SECTION 5.  The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 6.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
