A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO SENIOR CENTERS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature recognizes that senior centers in our islands, among other things, provide invaluable services to seniors that encompass a host of social, educational, and cultural opportunities, as well as activities that support healthy lifestyles.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to support the operations of certain senior centers on Oahu so that they may continue to enhance the quality of senior life in their respective communities.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 to provide funding for grants pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, for operating expenses to be distributed as follows:

     (1)  $      to Catholic Charities Hawaii for the Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center;

     (2)  $      for the Kapahulu Center;

     (3)  $      for the Moiliili Community Center; and

     (4)  $      for the Waikiki Community Center.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
