A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

RELATING TO EPILEPSY DISEASE ASSISTANCE.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  There is established within the department of health for administrative purposes an epilepsy networking task force.  The disability and communication access board shall be responsible for administering the work of the epilepsy networking task force, providing a facilitator, and submitting a report to the legislature.  The goal of the task force shall be to establish a program to link networks on epilepsy to provide epilepsy education, awareness, and treatment initiatives designed to address service gaps and treatment needs of the people affected by epilepsy.

     (b)  The members of the epilepsy networking task force shall consist of seven members as follows:

     (1)  A member of the house of representatives appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives;

     (2)  A member of the senate appointed by the president of the senate;

     (3)  The director of health or the director's designee;

     (4)  Two members who have been diagnosed with epilepsy appointed by the governor;

(5)  The executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii or the executive director's designee; and

(6)  The medical director of the Queen's Medical Center's Epilepsy Center or the medical director's designee.

     (c)  The epilepsy networking task force shall be exempt from chapter 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

     (d)  The epilepsy networking task force shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2009.

     (e)  The epilepsy networking task force shall cease to exist on June 30, 2009.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
