A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is an integral part of workforce development for the innovation economy.

     The legislature further finds that to enhance technology growth and development as well as workforce development in Hawaii, the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa needs additional faculty for research as well as for professional development and distance learning.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa for two full-time equivalent positions for an associate dean for research and a director of professional development and distance learning.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2008-2009 for two full-time equivalent positions for an associate dean for research and a director of professional development and distance learning at the college of engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2008.
