A BILL FOR AN ACT


 

 

relating to hawaii.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§  -    Indigenous and maoli people; Hawaii.  The descendants of the races inhabiting the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Oahu, Kauai, Niihau, and Nihoa to Kanemilohai or Kure Atoll, prior to western contact in 1778 are recognized as the native, indigenous, aboriginal, and maoli people of the islands of Hawaii."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
