A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to civil defense.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Chapter 128, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§128-     Industry contact directory. (a)  The civil defense agency shall compile an industry contact directory, to be completed before July 1, 2008.  The industry contact directory shall consist of contact information, including names, telephone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses, of businesses operating in the state.  The industry contact directory may also contain any other information made available to facilitate the dissemination of information relating to emergencies and natural disasters.  The industry contact directory shall be updated on an annual basis.

(b)  Upon the request of the civil defense agency, other state and county agencies shall provide assistance in compiling the industry contact directory. 

(c)  The industry contact directory shall be used in times of emergency or natural disaster to disseminate information, including transmittal of warnings and bulletins, to notify the businesses in the directory of important events and situations that may arise during the emergency or natural disaster.  Important events and situations include road closures or blockage, traffic disruptions, power outages, the status of airports and harbors, and the status of emergency shelters."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
