A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO EDUCATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. (a) The department of education shall develop a plan to increase academic services to students in the After-School Plus Program, or A+ Program. The academic services to be considered shall include:
(1) Tutoring for specific academic subjects;
(2) Training in study skills, such as time management and note taking;
(3) Training in test-taking skills; and
(4) Other services in addition to the homework assistance services and enrichment activities currently offered by the A+ Program.
(b) The department shall submit the plan to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2008.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2007-2008 to develop a plan to increase academic services to students in the After-School Plus Program, or A+ Program.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2007.
