MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR THE JUDICIARY.

Appropriates emergency funds to determine and repair earthquake‑related damage to Honolulu district court.

RELATING TO WITNESSES.

Amends the reimbursable fees and costs for witnesses in criminal cases.

RELATING TO WITNESSES.

Increases the per diem amount for an out-of-state witness in criminal cases; provides for an additional amount of per diem for a witness traveling to an island where a court is not normally situated if the witness is required to stay overnight.

SB 959

RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE.

Provides that bench warrants, with the exception of grand jury bench warrants in class A and B felony cases, shall expire 5 years after issuance.  Provides for extension of expiration period on good cause shown.  Warrants issued prior to effective date of Act to be valid for 5 years from effective date.

Persons wishing to testify should submit 40 3-hole punched copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 227, State Capitol, 24 hours prior to the hearing.  Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  In addition testimony may be emailed to the Public Access room at testimony@capitol.hawaii.gov.


When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

 

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

 

Public Folder.  A folder labeled “Public Folder” containing the measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for shared use by members of the public.
