Your Committee on Human Services & Housing, to which was referred H.R. No. 48, H.D. 1, entitled:
"HOUSE RESOLUTION URGING THE ADOPTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS' CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD AS A GUIDELINE FOR ADDRESSING CONCERNS RELATED TO HAWAII'S KEIKI,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this resolution is to urge the adoption of the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child as a guideline for addressing concerns related to Hawaii's keiki.
The Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center and several concerned individuals testified in support of this resolution. Several concerned individuals opposed this measure. The Representative of the 18th District and the Home School Legal Defense Association provided comments.
Your Committee has amended this resolution by:
(1) Changing its title to, "URGING THE ADOPTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS' CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD"; and
(2) Making technical, nonsubstantive amendments for clarity, consistency, and style.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Human Services & Housing that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.R. No. 48, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends its adoption in the form attached hereto as H.R. No. 48, H.D. 2.
