     Your Committee on Human Services & Housing, to which was referred H.C.R. No. 149 entitled:

 

"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING SUPPORT FOR MALAMA O KAMALI`I MAKAMAE IN ITS EFFORTS TO DEVELOP CARE HOME FACILITIES FOR ENDANGERED YOUNG CHILDREN FROM LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS, INCLUDING NATIVE HAWAIIAN CHILDREN AT HIGH RISK,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this concurrent resolution is to support the efforts of Malama O Kamalii Makamae to develop and operate state-of-the-art care facilities for endangered young children from low-income households, including native Hawaiian children at high risk.

 

     The Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Malama O Kamalii Makamae, and many concerned individuals testified in support of this concurrent resolution.

 

     Your Committee has amended this concurrent resolution by:

 

     (1)  Removing references to the Legislature's grant-in-aid program; and

 

     (2)  Making technical, nonsubstantive amendments for clarity, consistency, and style.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Human Services & Housing that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 149, as amended herein, and recommends that it be referred to the Committee on Finance in the form attached hereto as H.C.R. No. 149, H.D. 1.
