SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

Requesting the department of education to create a curriculum to include parenting classes to assist young adults in acquiring parenting skills and understanding parental responsibilities.

 

 


     WHEREAS, it is important that young adults see their future role as possible parents in a constructive and positive light; and

 

     WHEREAS, often times, young adults have not learned or acquired the parenting skills needed to successfully care for and nurture children; and

 

     WHEREAS, young adults who have children of their own often do not understand the responsibilities that come with being a parent; and

 

     WHEREAS, parenting and family issues are subjects that should be integrated into the educational curriculum to assist young adults in learning about familial responsibilities and building parenting skills; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that the Department of Education is requested to add parenting classes to its curriculum in order to teach young adults parenting skills and familial responsibilities; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the parenting classes should include teaching young adults parenting skills and familial responsibilities that focus on the early developmental years of children, specifically from birth to three years of age; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this


Resolution be transmitted to the Superintendent of Education and the Chairperson of the Board of Education.
