HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the board of agriculture to changE the name of the kailua reservoir to the waimaNALO RESERVOIR.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the town of Waimanalo is located in the city and county of Honolulu in the district of Koolaupoko on the eastern end of the island of Oahu; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2000 the United States Census Bureau identified a total population of 10,963 persons living in the Waimanalo, Waimanalo beach, and Waimanalo home land areas; and

 

     WHEREAS, other city, state, and federal agencies and community organizations recognize Waimanalo as distinct and separate from the geographic entity known as Kailua; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Kailua reservoir, built in the 1930s, is located in what is currently known as Waimanalo, not Kailua; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Kailua reservoir is approximately four hundred feet southwest of the intersection of Waikupanaha and Kumuahu streets, which are located in Waimanalo; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body requests the Board of Agriculture to change the name of the Kailua reservoir to the Waimanalo reservoir to promote accuracy in place names and encourage precise designations; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Agriculture and the Governor of the State of Hawaii.
