TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE, 2007
STATE OF HAWAII

WHEREAS, for more than a century, the American Red Cross has been at the forefront of helping Americans prevent, prepare for, and respond to, large and small disasters; and

WHEREAS, families and communities depend on the American Red Cross in times of need to provide immediate relief in times of local disasters, to provide valuable lifesaving skills to help others in need, and to work with the Armed Forces to ensure that their families can communicate with each other during times of crisis; and

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, has eight offices throughout the state with nearly 3,000 volunteers and donors who tirelessly serve their communities by providing valuable tools and education to individuals, families, workplaces and schools; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, responded to 108 local emergencies, reaching 582 families, providing over 6,300 meals to victims of disasters and emergency workers in the field, providing 172 people with safe shelter during times of evacuation; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, also trained 36,000 people in lifesaving skills such as CPR, first aid and aquatics with the help of volunteers who are at the core of the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body honors and expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter, for its essential humanitarian role in our community and also recognizes the many volunteers, donors, partners and employees who support the Red Cross.
