WHEREAS, student participation in athletic competition, a fundamental component of the physical, mental, and emotional development of our youth, instills the essence of perseverance, fellowship, and good sportsmanship into the character of Hawaii's future leaders; and

WHEREAS, battling through the odds and overcoming challenges to move forward through the season, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM held strong and worked together to achieve victories on the court and in their hearts and minds; and

WHEREAS, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM were uplifted challenging times by the community's strong support and pride to persevere and earn a shot at the state championship against Punahou; and

WHEREAS, through their hard work, sweat, and commitment to excellence the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM earned their victory in the 2007 Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball Division I State Championship; and

WHEREAS, before a frenzied crowd of 6,516 at the Stan Sheriff Center, the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM fought hard and took command of the game to emerge victorious with a score of 61-53, earning the title for the first time since 1993; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Kelly Grant and Assistant Coaches Kendall Ellingswood, Glen Jandoc, Matt Loa, and Jeff Rhode provided the guidance and leadership for the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM, ensuring these young men became winners both on and off the court; and

WHEREAS, teamwork on the part of the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM, the coaches, team managers, and statisticians truly delivered this honor to Kaimuki High School and the community; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby congratulates and recognizes the KAIMUKI HIGH SCHOOL BULLDOGS VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM: Beau Albrechtson, Craig Cabudol, Daniel Colon, Kamahoi Cookman, Perry Faleao, Tyler Fessenden-Batis, Jamari Hamilton, Ryan Kakitani, Bryan Lim, Brandon Madamba, Makalii Nahinu, Preacher Namdrik, Chauncey Nicola, Chezz Ramos-Dias, Keone Reyes, and Desmond Tautofi; Head Coach, Kelly Grant; Assistant Coaches, Kendall Ellingwood, Glen Jandoc, Matt Loa, and Jeff Rhode; Team Managers/Statisticians, Jasmine Fujimoto, Justine Hew, Payton Grant, Ainoa Mielke, Max Pepe, Janell Shimabukuro, Nancy Syxomphou, and Jordan Tanuvasa; and Video Team, Tasha Leybag and Puanani Akaka, on winning the 2007 Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball Division I State Championship, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes in all their future endeavors.
