HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING NATASHA KANANI JANINE KAI FOR HER OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the future of the State of Hawaii rests in the hands of our youth, who today face unique and formidable challenges, and the Legislature is proud to acknowledge the achievements of those conscientious and energetic youth who represent the best and brightest of Hawaii's athletes; and

 

     WHEREAS, NATASHA KANANI JANINE KAI was the pride of Kahuku High & Intermediate School, where she received four varsity letters each in soccer and track, as well as two in volleyball and one each in basketball and cross country; was a two-time Oahu Interscholastic Association soccer player and a 2001 All-State player of the year; led the Kahuku Red Raider soccer team to an OIA division title win; earned state track and field honors in the 110-meter hurdle high jump and long jump and was a two-time holder and state champion in the 300-meter hurdles; and

 

     WHEREAS, Hawaii's own NATASHA KANANI JANINE KAI moved on from the playing fields of Kahuku, Oahu, to become a member of the University of Hawaii Wahine Soccer Team, and then to become the first player from Hawaii to ever play for the United States Women's National Soccer Team, scoring goals in her first two international appearances and seven goals in her first 22 games; and

 

     WHEREAS, NATASHA KANANI JANINE KAI was first brought into the United States Women's National Soccer Team with the Under 21 Women's National Soccer Team in 2004, and was the leading scorer on the team with 12 goals, including six in international matches; helped lead the Under 21's to a Nordic Cup title in Iceland, scoring three goals in the tournament, including two against Germany; was called into her first training camp with the full Team in February of 2006, and made her first roster for the Algarve Cup; and made her full Team debut at the 2006 Algarve Cup in Portugal, scoring in her first two games against Denmark and France; and became only the fourth player in Team history to score in her first two caps; and

 

     WHEREAS, the United States Women's National Soccer Team has twice won an Olympic Gold Medal and repeatedly won other international competitions, capturing the hearts of Americans with its remarkable play and even higher levels of teamwork and good sportsmanship, and has ushered in a new era of women's athletics; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-forth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates NATASHA KANANI JANINE KAI for her outstanding accomplishments, and extends to her its warmest aloha and best wishes in all future endeavors.
