HOUSE RESOLUTION
commending and congratulating the artists and producers who participated in the production of legends of hawaiian slack key guitar-live from maui, the winner of the 49th Annual Grammy award for best hawaiian music album of the year.
WHEREAS, the passion and vibrancy of music transcends the ills of prejudice, animosity, and hatred in society to promote peace, harmony, and goodwill to all; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii is proud to recognize the achievements of the artists and producers of Legends of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar – Live from Maui, the winner of the 49th Annual Grammy Award for Best Hawaiian Music Album of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Legends of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar – Live from Maui, a compilation of live recordings of on-stage performances at the Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on Maui, consists of both Hawaiian vocals and slack key guitar music; and
WHEREAS, the Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series is produced by Hawaii's Renaissance man, George Kahumoku, Jr., and his music ohana, including Paul Konwiser, who traveled with George Kahumoku, Jr. on tour, and Wayne Wong, who was George Kahumoku's best friend at Kamehameha Schools; and
WHEREAS, Legends of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar – Live from Maui contains traditional Hawaiian music performed in each of the artist's unique styles by the best Hawaiian musicians, including instrumental performances by Ledward Kaapana, Ozzie Kotani, Bobby Ingano, and "Da Ukulele Boys" Garrett Probst and Peter DeAquino, and vocal performances by Cyril Pahinui, Dennis Kamakahi, Martin Pahinui, Richard Ho'opi'i, Keoki Kahumoku, and Daniel Ho; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby commends and congratulates the artists and producers of Legends of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar – Live from Maui on winning the 49th Annual Grammy Award for Best Hawaiian Music Album of the Year and for their achievements in and contributions to Hawaiian music, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
