HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

honoring and commending the hawaii academy of science on the 50th anniversary of the HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, the Legislature is always proud to salute the achievements of Hawaii's young scholars who demonstrate their abilities in competitions that highlight areas of academic skill and intellectual achievement; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Academy of Science is a private, nonprofit organization, founded in 1925, that is dedicated to promoting scientific research and education in Hawaii and the Pacific Region; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Academy of Science organizes the HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR and the Pacific Symposium for Science and Sustainability, two of the most outstanding educational programs in the state; and

 

     WHEREAS, the HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR is a statewide program that offers high school and intermediate school students challenging opportunities for scientific inquiry, experimentation, and research; and

 

     WHEREAS, the HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR encompasses a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and math research opportunities and promotes academic expression through the application of research methods to topics of individual student interest; and

 

     WHEREAS, for half a century, the HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR has provided secondary public and private school students a venue to showcase and present their research before a variety of audiences, and has allowed students an opportunity to improve their public speaking and communication skills, as well as boosting their confidence and self-esteem; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Academy of Science will hold the 50th HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR on April 2, 2007, through April 4, 2007, at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby honors and commends the Hawaii Academy of Science on the 50th anniversary of the HAWAII STATE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR, and extends its best wishes to the Academy for continued success in the promotion of science, technology, engineering, and math skills in our youth.
