HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Recognizing and congratulating tadd fujikawa as the Youngest Player to qualify for the united states open and the second youngest to make the cut in a p.g.a. tour event.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, athletics play an important role in the maturation of participating athletes by contributing to the development of their physical strength, stamina, coordination, mental concentration, discipline, and character; and

 

     WHEREAS, years of practicing how to overcome obstacles and challenges have contributed to the mentally tough character who is TADD FUJIKAWA, an athlete who has displayed exemplary skill both in the Judo dojo and on the golf course; and

 

     WHEREAS, on June 15, 2006, and as a 15-year-old freshman at Moanalua High School, TADD FUJIKAWA became the youngest player to ever tee up at the United States Open in the tournament's 111-year history; and

 

     WHEREAS, on Friday, January 12, 2007, TADD FUJIKAWA made history again by shooting a 4-under-par 66 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, becoming the second youngest player to make the cut in the P.G.A. Tour event, a feat that testifies to his dedication, perseverance, and talent; and

 

     WHEREAS, TADD FUJIKAWA accomplished this history-making round by shooting four birdies, two bogeys, and making an eagle on the 18th hole; and

 

     WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at 10:57 a.m., 16-year-old TADD FUJIKAWA became the second youngest player ever to tee up at a P.G.A. Tour event in its 91-year history, thereby securing his place in the record books; and

 

     WHEREAS, by the day’s end, TADD FUJIKAWA had scored a second consecutive round of 4-under par 66, which tied him for eighth place and vaulted him into contention for Sunday’s final round; and

 

     WHEREAS, on Sunday, January 14, 2007, TADD FUJIKAWA finished the final round with a score of 2-over par 72, tying for 20th place; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby commends and congratulates TADD FUJIKAWA for his outstanding achievements on the most prestigious stage in the world of golf, and expresses its warmest aloha for continued success on golf courses around the globe.
