HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR TO DECLARE MAY 27, 2007 AS "HONORING OUR SOLDIERS DAY".

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, many brave American service men and women continue to fight terrorism on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Iraq and Afghan wars have claimed many American lives, including many men and women who were either from, or stationed in Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, thousands more service men and women serve proudly all across the globe honoring and protecting the freedoms that we enjoy and too often take for granted; and

 

     WHEREAS, once a year the community unites formally to honor and pay tribute to the service people in our community who serve in the armed forces of the United States, including the Hawaii National Guard and Reserve units; and

 

     WHEREAS, the 2007 Hawaii Military Appreciation Week is a series of events to recognize the contributions of the many members of the armed forces from or stationed in Hawaii; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, the Senate concurring, that the Governor is requested to declare May 27, 2007 as "Honoring Our Soldiers Day"; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature supports the day long festivities to honor our soldiers that will include a concert at the Waikiki Shell, a military fly-over, with performances by the Honolulu Symphony and Ms. Crystal Gayle; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature also supports the related festivities that will occur on the U.S.S. Missouri and military bases throughout Oahu; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
