THE PURPOSE OF THIS INFORMATIONAL BRIEFING IS TO REVIEW INTERNET SAFETY FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND FAMILIES. THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING AND EXPLOITED CHILDREN REPORTS THAT OF AN ESTIMATED 25 MILLION CHILDREN WHO REGULARLY USE THE INTERNET, 1 IN 5 CHILDREN ARE SEXUALLY SOLICITED ONLINE AND 70% OF THESE UNWANTED SOLICITATIONS OCCUR IN THE CHILD'S HOME.
PURSUANT TO THE CONCERNS REGARDING INTERNET SAFETY, THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, STATE OF HAWAII, ASSEMBLED AND CREATED A STATE, FEDERAL, AND COUNTY TASK FORCE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO COORDINATE EFFORTS AND RESOURCES IN DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO INCREASE THE INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION OF INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN.
THE LEGISLATIVE KEIKI CAUCUS HAS INVITED THE FOLLOWING AGENCIES AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO THE LEGISLATURE ABOUT THEIR EFFORTS TO COMBAT INTERNET CRIME TOWARD CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES:
