The following measures are added to the agenda:

SB 2971

RELATING TO INCOME TAX DEDUCTIONS.

Allows resident individual taxpayers to claim an income tax deduction from gross income of up to $250 per taxable year for eligible school-related expenditures paid by qualifying educators. Applies to expenses incurred after December 31, 2006.

RELATING TO CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP FOR EDUCATION.

Establishes adopt-a-school program with DOE to which corporations would make tax-deductible contributions to fund school repair and maintenance. Establishes permanent task force on corporate donations for education to advise adopt-a-school.

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Establishes new research-based curriculum for kindergarten through grade six to develop students' critical and creative thinking skills. Makes appropriation.

MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR ELECTRICITY USAGE.

Makes an emergency appropriation of $6,721,181 to DOE for electricity usage for fiscal year 2005-2006.

MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES.

Makes an emergency appropriation to the department of education for student transportation services.

Appropriates $225,000 for training and activities for the school community councils at the department of education.

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR SCHOOL CUSTODIAL TRAINING.

Establishes funding for the school custodial training program on Oahu to enhance the repair and maintenance skills of school custodians. Makes appropriation.

Appropriates funds to support the department of education's website operations.
