In 2005, the Legislature responded to the rapidly growing threat of ID theft among Hawaii residents by establishing the Hawaii Anti-Phishing Task Force to develop policies for prevention of ID theft and other electronic commerce-based crimes. The Task Force recently released its recommendations in the Report on Electronic Commerce-Based Crimes, available online at:
http://www.state.hi.us/ag/pdf_documents/2006/reports%20to%20leg/172440_1.pdf.The purpose of this Informational Briefing is to report on the Task Force's findings on the breadth of ID theft problems in Hawaii and its recommendations for legislation and other actions.
