In 2005, the Legislature responded to the rapidly growing threat of ID theft among Hawaii residents by establishing the Hawaii Anti-Phishing Task Force to develop policies for prevention of ID theft and other electronic commerce-based crimes. The Task Force recently released its recommendations in the Report on Electronic Commerce-Based Crimes, available online at: http://www.state.hi.us/ag/pdf_documents/2006/reports%20to%20leg/172440_1.pdf.

The purpose of this Informational Briefing is to report on the Task Force's findings on the breadth of ID theft problems in Hawaii and its recommendations for legislation and other actions.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL THE COMMITTEE CLERK AT 586-6673.
