STAND. COM. REP. NO. 1873-06

Honolulu, Hawaii

, 2006

RE: S.C.R. No. 84

Honorable Calvin K.Y. Say

Speaker, House of Representatives

Twenty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2006

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Education, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 84 entitled:

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE HA`IKU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAFETERIA BE KNOWN AS THE JEAN SUZUKI CAFETERIA IN HONOR OF FORMER HA`IKU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAFETERIA EMPLOYEE JEAN SUZUKI,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this concurrent resolution is to request Haiku Elementary School to rename its cafeteria the "Jean Suzuki cafeteria" in remembrance and honor of Jean Suzuki, who served as the cafeteria manager at Haiku Elementary School for 36 years.

The Department of Education (DOE) and a concerned individual supported the intent of this measure.

Your Committee notes that although this measure specifically requests Haiku Elementary School to rename the cafeteria, the authority to do so may lie with DOE or the Board of Education. However, your Committee recognizes the importance of this measure to the community and has moved to adopt this concurrent resolution.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 84 and recommends its adoption.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Education,
