WHEREAS, hypnotherapy is a recognized helping profession; and

WHEREAS, health care professionals who are knowledgeable about hypnotherapy say that it is a therapeutic tool used to facilitate psychotherapeutic treatment of a wide range of disorders; and

WHEREAS, according to these professionals, the Dictionary of Occupational Titles for the United States Department of Labor lists hypnotherapy as a profession, separate and independent from psychiatry and psychology; and

WHEREAS, another statistic cited by these professionals is that in 1989, the National Center of Education Statistics of the United States Department of Education assigned a Classification of Instructional Programs number to hypnotherapy, CIP 51.2303, subsequently changed to CIP 51.3603, under the Health Professions and Related Sciences category; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, that the State of Hawaii is requested to consider the merits of recognizing hypnotherapy as a legitimate profession and a provider of human services separate and independent from mental health professions, including psychiatry and psychology; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Director of Health, the Director of Human Services, the Director

of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and the Director of Labor and Industrial Relations.
