SENATE RESOLUTION

 

AMENDING THE SENATE RULES RELATING TO FUNDRAISERS.

 

WHEREAS, members of the Senate hold fundraisers as a method of raising funds, meeting constituents, lobbyists, and other members of the public, and increasing awareness of Senate accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, these purposes are appropriate and legal; and

WHEREAS, there is the public perception, however, that fundraisers held during the legislative session are inappropriate; and

WHEREAS, the Senate desires to avoid even the appearance of impropriety that may occur by holding fundraisers during a regular session; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, that the Senate Rules are amended by adding a new rule to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

Rule    . Fundraisers. No member shall hold a fundraiser during a regular session.; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to President of the Senate and the Clerk of the Senate.
