RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT FOR THE HAWAII ATHLETIC TRAINERS' ASSOCIATION AND THE NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINERS' ASSOCIATION.
WHEREAS, the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Hawaii Athletic Trainers' Association strive to keep up with the latest treatment techniques, research and technological advancements in athletic fitness, education, and training; and
WHEREAS, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2002-2003 Edition, the demand for health care services will create tremendous job opportunities over the next eight years with nine of the top twenty job growth categories in health care services; and
WHEREAS, athletic trainers are represented in two of the three major job growth categories: health care services and education; and
WHEREAS, certified athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity based upon specific tasks, knowledge, and skills acquired through their nationally regulated educational processes; and
WHEREAS, certified athletic trainers provide for:
(1) Prevention of injuries;
(2) Recognition, evaluation, and aggressive treatment of injuries;
(3) Rehabilitation from injuries;
(4) Health care administration; and
(5) Education and guidance;
and
WHEREAS, the National Athletic Trainers' Association represents and supports 30,000 members of the athletic training profession employed in professional sports, colleges and universities, high schools, clinics and hospitals, and corporate and industrial settings; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Athletic Trainer's Association's mission is to advance, encourage, and improve the athletic training profession in all its phases, and to meet the specific needs of National Athletic Trainers' Association members in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and health care have joined together in common desire to raise public awareness of the importance of the athletic training profession and to emphasize the importance of quality health care within professional sports, colleges and universities, high schools, clinics and hospitals, and corporate and industrial settings; and
WHEREAS, such efforts will improve health care for athletes and those engaged in physical activity and promote certified athletic trainers as allied health professionals; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2006, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Legislature expresses its support for the Hawaii Athletic Trainers' Association and the National Athletic Trainers' Association; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Hawaii Athletic Trainers' Association and the Executive Director of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
